Puma Releases BHM Collection Inspired By Tommie Smith’s Memorable Olympics

Puma Black History Month Collection 01

The month of February always brings out a number of celebratory pairs for Black History Month. This year the trend of referencing individual athletic trailblazers within the African American community atop special edition releases seems to be the modus operandi. adidas respected the efforts of Jesse Owens and now German-based Puma will take a similar approach with a nod to historic runners Tommie Smith and John Carlos. The two U.S. sprinters took to the medal podium after placing first and third in the 200m dash at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. They then took off their pairs of Pumas, donned black leather gloves, and raised their fists in a Black Power salute in what would become an iconic photo seen the world over. Puma celebrates with two special edition Puma Suede pairs and a Puma Sky II High, all featuring unique multi-color prints, premium materials, and the iconic silhouette of the raised-fist pose on the tongue. Get with us after the break for a better view of Puma’s own Black History Month collection and pick up your favorite pair today from spots like Politics.
