Tattoo Artist Dr. Woo Inks Up Two Converse Chuck 70s

Famed tattoo artist Dr. Woo is teaming up with Converse to put his own unique spin on the iconic Chuck Taylor 70. “I wanted something clean and not obvious or expected of me,” Dr. Woo said. Woo takes distinguished aesthetics and recognizable compositions and turns them into one-of-a-kind pieces of body artwork from an unadvertised suite in the Roosevelt Hotel.

While Dr. Woo was growing up, he would always take his pair of Chucks and try to deconstruct them – drawing all over them, tearing them up, trying to make them unique to himself. His new Chuck collaboration tells the story of a spider and a fly, delivering a minimalist aesthetic that allows for the wearer to come up with his or her own interpretation of the meaning. Dr. Woo’s signature logo also comes emblazoned as a strong focal point of the design as it portrays what communicating with each other and the creatures that inhabit earth means in today’s society. Its design is meant to get dirty and scuffed, as the artist intended for the spider embroidery to get rough and fuzzy, giving the shoe its own personal feel and story as it ages.

A very limited number of sneakers will be personally tattooed and signed by Dr. Woo himself, but that release will be exclusive to a private event at Maxfield in LA. The rest of the sneakers will be available at Converse.com and select retailers on January 20th. In the meantime, enjoy a look at both the black and white pair below.
