This Air Jordan 1 Is Inspired By Michael Jordan’s 1984 Sports Illustrated Cover

Earlier in July, we brought you a detailed look at an upcoming Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG that celebrated MJ’s Rookie of the Year campaign and the infamous shirt he wore during his acceptance press conference. Now, the Jumpman is set to utilize the same influential silhouette to tell the story of another iconic moment in the unmatched legacy of number 23, his 1984 Sports Illustrated cover – his first as a member of the Chicago Bulls. Aptly given the nickname, “A Star Is Born”, the sneaker features a striped pattern on its midfoot Swoosh that perfectly reflects the piping down the side of the Milwaukee Bucks uniforms worn by Sidney Moncrief and Mike Dunleavy as they attempt to defend a soaring Michael. Red, black, and white are responsible for the rest of this honorary selection, with red adding contrast on the piping of its aforementioned Swoosh as well as the ankle collar’s recognizable Wings logo.

Equipped with premium leather, this brand new Jordan 1 is slated to hit retailers this holiday season. Grab an initial look at the Air Jordan 1 “A Star Is Born” below and stay tuned for more photos and release details as we have them.
