Detailed Look At The Nike Air Max 1 “Tinker Sketch”

Detailed Look At The Nike Air Max 1 “Tinker Sketch”

Responsible for a wide swath of classic Nike/Jordan silhouettes, Tinker Hatfield is unquestionably the Swoosh Brand’s most well-known and influential designer. One of his most famous creations is the Centre Pompidou-inspired Air Max 1 — the first-ever shoe to sport a visible Air cushioning unit — and now Nike is paying their respects to a part of the powerful polymath’s process with a new “Tinker Sketch” makeup. Unlike the leather-equipped Air Max 1 Schematic that nods to Hatfield’s line work, the “Sketch” retains its original mesh/suede construction and famous white/grey/university red palette. The colored overlays feature a scribbled pen-to-paper design, while Tinker’s jotted notes appear in their original position as well. Hand-scrawled logos grace both the tongue and insole, while the most interesting quirk may be the outsole, which features a translucent rubber with cartoon-esque black design lines underneath. The look is then completed by a “Sketch, Property Of Nike, Not For Resale” hit on the sockliner for a clever nod to the overall WIP-style aesthetic. Check out a full gallery of images below, and expect these AM1s to arrive at retailers this September.
