Original article published August 23rd, 2024: The Nike Air Force 1 has come a long, long way since its origins as a performance shoe. However, with the return of many of the Swoosh’s basketball offerings from a wide range of time periods (the Air Flight ’89, Terminator and even KD 4 highlight that effort), why leave out one of the OGs? The latest edition of the “Uptown” throws back to its on-court origins with a smattering of touches.

Though the perforated leather and heavy use of off-white, red & blue demonstrate a vintage atmosphere even at first blush, the real conceptual centerpiece is on the insoles. Infrared-like depictions of on-court action serve as the background for a 60s-era “update” to the Nike logo in bubble lettering. Pan back up for the other major twist on this shoe, the Swoosh. Primarily relying on the same shade of light blue that paints the sockliner and heel tab, pop art stippling adds the vibrant red from the outsole and tongue onto that piece of branding. You can probably find more toolsy basketball shoes on then market than the Air Force 1 in 2024, but you might struggle to find a shoe that taps into retro sensibilities as well as this pair does.

Look out for the Nike Air Force 1 Low “Nike Inc.” this Fall at Nike.com and local retailers, carrying a $115 MSRP.
