Arriving just a few months after the Nike Kobe 9 Protro first hit the shelves, the colorway serves up a fitting embrace of the season, evoking a Clausian palette of white and red with flares of “Emerald Green” throughout.

Marking a divergence from the low-cut fare that had marked the Kobe signature line for years, the Kobe 9 remains as much of an oddity in its retro form. Though the initial colorways that have landed this year kept things in conservative fare, the “Christmas” edition truly showcases the off-kilter design language that defined its original run. Despite the typical injection of new Protro performance features (reimagined tread and Nike React responsiveness), the shoe’s 2014 appearance remains intact here, complete with the Kobe signature on the tongue and the “Mamba’s greetings” embroidery tag on its interior.
As mentioned towards the top, the Nike Kobe 9 “Christmas” lands relatively early in the model’s “Protro” run, only preceded by the two “Halo” colorways of the High and Elite Low. Looking ahead into 2025, this is just an appetizer of what’s to come, with a novel “Black/Gold” edition and retro releases for the original “Beethoven” and “Moonwalker” colorways each expected in the new year.
