Amid leaks and updates on what the Jumpman had in store for its 40th anniversary, a surprising colorway was added to the 2025 slate when the Air Jordan 1 “Black Toe Reimagined” slid back from its planned October 2024 launch. With that pair’s spotlighted status, landing during the always-competitive All-Star Weekend, there are some natural ripple effects felt in Beaverton — something the Air Jordan 1 Mid “Dark Pony” can attest to.

Leveraging increased attention on a coveted retro release to increase the profile of inline drops is a formula Jordan fans should easily recognize by now. Whether the “Dark Pony” Jordan 1 Mid at hand was directly dreamed up with that in mind or not, it’s a fitting moment for it to emerge all the same.The iconic colored collar, white foundation, and black panelling down the shoe’s midline hits on that historic layout, while the addition of shaded branding via the Swoosh and tongue tag keep things just far enough from the original to not be a carbon copy.

Especially with how expensive 2025 is looking already (the Jordan 1 “Bred” and Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined” are coming within a week of the “Black Toe Reimagined”), this might be a way to get in on the hype without breaking the bank, forever a strong suit of the Mid cut.
