The VaporFly line is unquestionably one of Nike’s more seismic of the past decade, ushering in the era of the “super shoe” that nearly every competitor brand has branched into since the 2016 Olympics. With plenty of signals since Elliot Hill came into the driver’s seat in mid-2024 that the Swoosh would be redoubling their efforts on the track, the reveal Nike VaporFly 4 is one of the more monumental announcements over that span.
On first read, the Vaporfly formula remains in broad strokes, combining a pointed, extended heel with a sheer graphic layer over top, particularly tooled in this fourth iteration to be up to 10% lighter than its predecessor, landing at just 169 grams. Regarding tech, the radical equation of extreme levels of ZoomX Foam and a carbon fiber Flyplate underfoot also sticks around, with that full-length plate curvature tinkered for more efficient energy return on the Vaporfly 4.
A particular point of emphasis is merging the best of both worlds from the two previous shoes; the latest silhouette is said to “deliver the stability of the Vaporfly 3 and the softness of” the Next% 2. As always, the insights of Nike athletes heavily influenced the tooling on display here. Record-holders Mohammed Ahmed and Joshua Cheptegei each tested the shoe throughout its various stages of production.
The hi-vis red and green and a prototype look that harkens to Paris’ blueprint pack sit center in these official announcements, but we know of four colorways of the Nike Vaporfly 4 as it looks to its debut. The model is expected to hit Nike.com and partnering retailers beginning in March.
