Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Debuts The Converse SHAI 001 “Ares Grey”

The NBA Playoffs is where the spotlight is the brightest. It’s often a platform where new signature shoes and colorways debut, and with the showdown between the OKC Thunder and Memphis Grizzlies showcasing some of the younger star talent of the league, eyeballs are certainly fixated on the turnout of this series. Ja Morant contributed to the energy by debuting the Nike Ja 3 in “Max Volume”, but the MVP frontrunner didn’t shy away from the platform, either.

Converse may have revealed the SHAI 001 “Ares Grey” on Instagram on the eve of the series, but the impact is at its strongest when the athlete itself laces ’em up. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander did just that, debuting the shoes on-foot during the tunnel walk and then sporting the upcoming colorway throughout the first game.

Like the “Butter” colorway that’s debuting later this Fall, the Ares Grey sticks to a monochromatic execution befitting the molded construction of the shoes. This leaves us wondering whether or not Converse will explore non-tonal options for the SHAI 001, but we’re still in the early stages.

For now, check out a closer shot of SHAI in the new colorway below.
