New Balance’s Loafer Shoes Continue To Spark Discussion

Slip-on sneakers mimicking the loafer look continue to be a topic of discussion in the Comments section. Is it a satirical knock on the trend of boring, grown-up footwear appealing to style mavens, or is it actual style?

The New Balance 1906L took that head on when it launches the debut colorway last Fall. With the help of Junya Watanabe’s white/black iterations, the 1906 Loafer took on a life of its own to become the exemplar of how to properly blur the lines between fashion and performance footwear. Nearly a year later, the Boston brand is pumping out colorway after colorway, although the latest wave seems to be focused more on sportier side than anything.

This upcoming drop focuses on a matte metallic royal blue laid over a black/dark grey base, quickly injecting the athletic appeal of the 1906’s original intent. It might be the right entry point for those who still want that “tech runner” aesthetic, but want to take some fashion risks.

Official brand images of this New Balance loafer have surfaced; see them below and stay tuned to our Sneaker Release Dates page for firmer updates.
