Even if he hadn’t played such an integral role in securing the gold medal, just the win alone in the 2024 Olympics likely would’ve planted Kevin Durant as the GOAT of USA Basketball. His personal status on the international stage is no doubt influencing the past-meets-future aspect of his role in the upcoming Nike Basketball “Immortalized” collection, now understood in full as the KD 18 adds official images.
Indeed, as Devin Booker, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant are celebrated as Nike’s alumni from last summer’s squad, the Slim Reaper breaks from his teammates by turning away from two sparkling colorways of his most recent signature. Instead, the shoe at hand will accompany the Nike KD 4 “Gold Medal,” creating a heartwarming duo that represents the kicks he wore for medal #1 and medal #4. It’s only right that the KD 18 mirrors its predecessor’s arrangement, wearing gilded leather and patriotic navy/red trim. To hammer home the Paris locale and the brand’s overall winning ways, a depiction of the “Winged Victory of Samothrace” appears on the insole.
As of this writing, all six members of the Nike “Immortalized” capsule, including the KD 18 revealed here, are expected out on August 8th. Despite that date creeping closer, much of that launch remains opaque — SKUs exist for each individual shoe and three distinct two-packs for each athlete, complicating exactly how Nike will follow through with this drop.
