On top of being culturally groundbreaking, Michael Jordan’s signature line has opened countless doors for Nike Inc. designers. While overshadowed by its neighbors, the Jordan 2 has the important distinction of being the first Jordan to not feature a prominent Swoosh; something that’s of course continued on almost all subsequent numbered models. The Swoosh does, however, sometimes make appearances on select styles like this upcoming Jordan 40 release.
Taking inspiration from the one that started it all, the Jordan 40 here tributes the Jordan 1 with a leather Swoosh on the lateral side and wings logo on the medial collar. The colorway pulls from the Jordan 1 playbook as well, led by “Varsity Red” on the outsole and tongue tag and black on the toe/heel. The upper is cut from premium “Sail” leather, matched by a “Sail” ZoomX midsole underfoot.
We’re reminded of the Jordan 3 “Tinker Hatfield” line from the late 2010s, although that series was inspired by one of the legendary Nike designer’s early sketches of that particular model. The theme referenced here dials it all the way back to the start of the Air Jordan line; an apt way to celebrate 40 years. We also recently broke down a Chris Paul Jordan 40 PE featuring a stitched floral Swoosh, although that sneaker is not expected to release.
These are currently earmarked for November 2025, priced at $205. See official images below and hit our Jordan Release Dates page to preview more upcoming basketball shoes.
