Whether the art can be separated from the artist is a different debate entirely, but there’s no denying that Kanye West greatly helped shape the sneaker world as we know it today. Before leading adidas to its most fruitful years ever, Ye broke new ground as the first non-athlete to release a signature Nike model. Now twelve years removed from Kanye’s first sneaker industry break-up, the Air Yeezy line remains a hot point of interest when it comes to footwear lore.
As we’ve discussed in the past, the number of unreleased Nike Yeezy samples dwarfs the number of pairs that actually ended up dropping (only three colorways each of the Yeezy 1 and Yeezy 2). Grail collector @depeche23mode recently posted pics of a Yeezy 2 that’s alluded the public eye to this point; a “Metallic Silver” colorway featuring some key recognizable elements. Just like the “Pure Platinum” and “Solar Red” Yeezy 2s, the sneaker features quilted side panels made to look like reptile skin. A “Metallic Silver” leather forefoot balances out the upper, while key elements like the Horus, hieroglyph-style graphics, and reflective outsole carry over from the Yeezy 2 makeups we know well.
Barring any miracles, this sneaker will never see a public release. Kanye West is, however, once again releasing shoes independently through the Yeezy website.
