Despite the SHAI 001 just now getting its first big public release, the inaugural Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shoe has a part of the sneaker zeitgeist for the better part of 2025. Shai debuted the model on-court at NBA All-Star Weekend back in February, sporting the very same “Butter” colorway we have before us today (or the “Mustard” if you’re Kevin Hart). We’re not used to sneakers having a seven-month buffer period between their unveiling and first big drop, but in Shai’s case, some might say things worked out for the best. SGA achieved historic success in the second half of 2024-25, becoming the first player in 25 years to win the Finals MVP, Regular Season MVP, and Scoring Title in the same year, all in the SHAI 001. Needless to say, much like himself, Shai’s first signature model has an immediate aura to it.
As we’ve already discussed at length, SGA was far more involved in the creation of his debut sneaker than the average signature athlete (which isn’t a surprise given his fashion reputation). The SHAI 001 stands out with a zippered shroud, Zoom Air unit in the forefoot, and grippy radial traction underfoot. SGA’s signature logo appears on the tongue and insoles, while the Converse chevron appears on the TPU heel portion.
