It’s no shock that winter weather shortens the rotation for sneakerheads everywhere, but brands have increasingly turned their attention to preventing their warm weather favorites from hitting the chopping block. Before you change out the tech runners that’ve served you since Spring, New Balance is aiming to keep the 1906R in play for harsher climates, unveiling a Primaloft takeover of the remodeled silhouette.
While GORE-Tex is typically the choice for this sort of makeover, Primaloft is far from a novel development in footwear as a whole, utilized by adidas, Reebok, and Converse in scattered appearances over the past decade. Offering weather and cold resistance, the material really explains itself in this context, seen through the base layer and tongue. To ensure a connection to the parent model, a mesh window at the quarter ensures the same throwback appeal that any 1906R off the shelf majors in.
We’re unsure if this will be the only collection that the Boston brand and insulation innovators will release for Winter ’25/’26, but three sensible options in all-olive, all-grey, and all-black define this initial drop. Surprisingly, retail remains at $155 for each member of the tree despite the material overhaul.
