As we sneaker bloggers begin considering end-of-year superlatives, the Chanel-inspired Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” is a release that will likely make more than a few top ten lists. The Cali sneaker company set the internet ablaze with a clever design inspired by Chanel’s iconic graffiti messenger bag, epitomizing the growing influence of indie fashion on the footwear world. If you’re unwilling to drop 4x retail on the “Warm Brown” colorway, Vans is revisiting the same reference with a “Burgundy” sequel in the very near future.
This follow-up colorway doesn’t necessarily align with the aforementioned Chanel bag, but the underlying aesthetic remains the same. Washed “Burgundy” canvas makes up the sides, with distressedm multi-color stitching appearing on the Sidestripe and top of the tongue. Black leather lands on the toe box, heel, and eyestays, complemented by a brown leather sock liner, metallic gold eyelets, and red laces. Eight Chanel-inspired pins come with the sneaker, led by a peace sign for a clear and direct correlation. Underfoot, a distressed, pre-dirtied outsole rounds out the delivery.
No concrete release date has been announced, but Sneaker Politics has the next Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” on its release calendar for September 15th. Expect to pay $125 if you’re able to cop at retail.
