The 2000s remains a key part of the sneaker zeitgeist, and with that, the Nike Shox category is more active than it’s been in decades. Nike will continue the Shox renaissance with a Shox BB4 “Olympic” retro come Summer 2026, but in the more immediate future, we’ve got another returning runner to report. The Nike Shox NZ, originally released in the early 2000s, is coming back in several colorways for Fall/Winter 2025.
You can think of the Shox NZ as a diet version of the Shox R4. It’s got the same four Shox cushioning columns in the heel, but the upper is far different. The Shox NZ was touted as Nike’s slimmest, most aerodynamic Shox runner at the time of its release, saddled with a shorter height for a more low-to-the-ground appearance. There’s no one standard material composition, but most colorways feature some combination of leather and mesh. Side panels featuring slanted lines attached to the eyelets might remind some of the Terra Humara, joined by fabric lace loops and a smattering of Shox branding/Swoosh logos.
We’ve uncovered three OG-minded Shox NZ colorways set to release in 2025, starting with an all-black option featuring leather and textured suede. A black leather look featuring “Varsity Red” accents and white contrast stitching will also be available, as will a mesh/leather build in “White/Sport Red/Cool Grey/Metallic Silver.”
The Nike Shox NZ is available now in Japan and is expected to land stateside in the near future. Budget for a $150 MSRP if you’re considering jumping on the nostalgia train.
